🗣️ Think-Aloud Scripts
Purpose: Parents learn to narrate their thinking so children can see curiosity, persistence, and wonder in action.
| Reading Situation | Think-Aloud Script | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| When noticing something interesting | “Oh! I didn’t expect that to happen. I wonder why the author chose that word?” | Models curiosity and inference |
| When something is confusing | “Hmm… I didn’t understand that part. Let me go back and reread.” | Normalizes struggle and self-correction |
| When predicting | “I think the dog might find its way home. What makes me think that? The clues!” | Teaches prediction and evidence-based thinking |
| When connecting | “This reminds me of the time we got caught in the rain — just like the character!” | Builds text-to-self connection |
| When showing emotion | “That part made my heart feel warm. I love when characters help each other.” | Demonstrates empathy and emotional connection |
| When finishing a story | “What a great ending! I feel calm now. Let’s take a deep breath together.” | Models closure and mindfulness |
💡 Tip: Keep your tone light, like a friend sharing an interesting observation — not like a teacher quizzing.
