Build-a-Book

Inspire creativity, storytelling, and ownership over reading.

Invite your child to imagine their own dream story. Who would be in it? Where would it take place? Then let them design a book cover using paper, markers, Canva, or even recycled materials. Include a title, author name, and a short tagline (“A story about courage and cookies!”).

Ask:

“What kind of story do you want to tell?”
“What would make someone want to pick up your book?”
“Can you draw one scene or character from inside?”

 

Display their cover on a family bookshelf or reading nook wall. Show everyone who comes to the house their creation. Celebrating their creativity helps them see themselves as storytellers, not just story readers.
